Privacy Policy

The short version: CensorMate does not collect, store, or transmit your data. Your audio and video files never leave your device.

What CensorMate does with your files

All processing — transcription, word matching, and censoring — happens locally in your browser using on-device AI (Whisper via WebAssembly/WebGPU and ffmpeg.wasm). Your files are never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's. We could not look at your files even if we wanted to, because they never reach us.

What we store on your device

The extension saves your settings (keyword lists, censor preferences, theme) and, if you purchase Pro, your license key — all in your browser's local extension storage. The AI model files are downloaded once from Hugging Face's public model repository and cached locally. None of this leaves your device except as described below.

Network requests the extension makes

• huggingface.co — a one-time download of the open-source speech-recognition model (data files only). No information about you or your files is sent.
• api.polar.sh — if you activate a Pro license, the extension periodically validates your license key with Polar, our payment provider. Only the license key and an activation identifier are transmitted — never your files, keywords, or transcripts.

Payments

Purchases are processed by Polar (polar.sh), who act as merchant of record. Your payment details are handled entirely by them under their privacy policy. We receive no card details.

Analytics and tracking

The extension contains no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking pixels, and no error reporting that transmits data. This website may use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics that collect no personal information.

Your data rights

Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete — uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your device. For anything related to purchase records, contact Polar or email us.
